Reading the website
The supplied site code has no accounts, advertising trackers, analytics scripts, third-party fonts or embedded social media. Your browser still makes ordinary technical requests to retrieve pages and local assets. Hosting infrastructure may process an IP address, requested URL, request time, browser information and security events to deliver and protect the site.
Where technical information is processed for security and reliable delivery, the relevant basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure information website. We do not use the supplied code to build visitor advertising profiles.
The local letter tool
Subject, optional lodge context and message text are processed in your browser. The tool does not submit them to a server, transmit them by email or store them in cookies or localStorage. It generates a plain-text preview only when you ask it to do so.
If you choose Copy letter, the text is placed on your device's clipboard, subject to browser permissions. If you choose Download .txt, your browser creates a local text file. Your browser, operating system, extensions or clipboard synchronisation settings may handle these items separately. Clearing the page does not delete a downloaded file or a clipboard copy.
If you send correspondence
If you independently email or write to us, we receive the information you include, such as your email address, name, message and attachments. We use it to respond, assess a correction, maintain an appropriate editorial record or deal with a legal request. Please share only what is necessary.
We generally rely on legitimate interests in handling editorial and administrative correspondence. Where a legal duty applies, we rely on the relevant legal obligation. We do not add correspondents to a marketing list merely because they contact us.
Service providers, retention and transfers
Hosting and email service providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to deliver their services. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to establish or defend legal claims. We do not sell correspondence or visitor information.
Correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably needed to resolve the matter and preserve a proportionate editorial or legal record. Technical records should be kept only for the operational and security period needed by the service involved. This notice does not promise that all information disappears immediately after a message is answered.
Where a provider processes personal information outside the United Kingdom, applicable transfer requirements must be met, such as an adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards. You may ask us for information about the safeguards relevant to your correspondence.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to access and correct personal information, request erasure or restriction, object to processing and receive certain information in a portable form. These rights have conditions and exceptions. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity before responding.
You may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Please contact us first if you would like us to address a concern, although doing so is not a condition of your right to complain.
